Macau’s average hotel occupancy rate in 2023 reached 85.2 per cent, an increase of 47 percentage points compared to the previous year, but still falls below the 90.8 per cent figure recorded in 2019.
According to the latest statistics released by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the average hotel occupancy rates for five-star, four-star, and three-star hotels were 85.8, 80.7 and 91.6 per cent, respectively, with three-star hotels seeing the highest year-on-year increase of 50.3 percentage points.
The average hotel room rate in 2023 stood at MOP1,341 (US$167), representing an increase of 79.8 per cent compared to the 2022 figure of MOP746. However, the 2023 figure is still slightly lower than the MOP1,360.7 tally reported in 2019.
The average hotel room rates for five-star, four-star and three-star establishments in 2023 stood at MOP1,509.9, MOP955.7 and MOP969.8, respectively.
In December 2023, the hotel occupancy rate soared to 91.2 per cent, showcasing a month-on-month growth of 2.8 percentage points. Meanwhile, the hotel room rate in December surged to MOP1,552.2, indicating a month-on-month increase of 10.8 per cent.
