The auction for the properties formerly owned by junket kingpin Alvin Chau will continue until early next week in a move that could have provided potential bidders with extended opportunities to participate.
According to public information, sealed bidding is now running until 19 February, or next Monday – as opposed to 11 September last year.
The properties under the hammer include five commercial units and 31 parking bays that are worth nearly MOP600 million (US$75 million).
Chau, the former boss of now-defunct Suncity Group, is now serving a prison term of 18 years after being found guilty of running illegal gaming activities; and engaging in fraud, money laundering, and criminal association.
The 50-year-old failed to lessen the sentence in spite of a judicial appeal.
However, Chau, alongside six other fellow defendants, was acquitted of fraud, but was ordered to pay some HK$25 billion in compensation to the Macau government for money laundering and illicit gaming offences
