Melco Resorts & Entertainment has announced that it will bring a skateboarding event to Macau in March 2025.
According to a press conference held on Friday, the event is entitled ‘International Festival of Extreme Sports (FISE): Battle of the Champions (BOTC) 2025’.
It is part of a collaboration with the government to boost the tourism industry.
Skateboarding made its debut as an official Olympic sport at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in a bid to draw attention from the younger generation.
Skateboarding events are usually held in two disciplines: street and park.
The former allows skaters to perform tricks on a course that resembles a street environment, including stairs, rails, and ramps.
The latter features a large hollowed-out course with curves, bowls, and ramps, allowing skaters to perform aerial tricks.
The casino operator has also announced a plan to open a skateboard park at Studio City.
“We are excited to introduce ‘FISE: BOTC 2025, Macau’ as the first event of its kind event to ever take place in Macau and the Greater Bay Area,” said Clarence Chung, a board director of Melco.
“The festival will combine sports and youth culture in a vibrant festival atmosphere to appeal to both locals and visitors, while demonstrating Melco’s steadfast commitment to bringing world class events and performances to Macau.”
